There’s good news for cycling enthusiasts in Bengaluru. Cubbon Park will soon introduce bicycles on rent – an initiative being put together by the Tourism Department and the Horticulture Department.
Tourism Minister, Priyank Kharge, told The Hindu that this is an attempt to enhance the tourists’ experience in the city, and, of course, for the cyclists who will now have a designated area to ride their bicycles peacefully.
“The Bengaluru Tourism Advisory Committee has been formed to suggest new initiatives, and one of them is to develop the Cubbon Park circuit. Introducing cycles on a rental basis is one step in this direction,” he told the publication.

At first, it will be introduced on a trial basis for two months, and depending on the feedback, changes will be made.
“On Sundays, when vehicles are not allowed in the park, people come out in large numbers and cycle. So this initiative will definitely attract visitors. Several people also come by Namma Metro to Cubbon Park, so they will certainly be keen on hiring cycles,” Priyank told The Hindu.
They’re also trying to create separate tracks for cyclists, so the walkers aren’t disturbed. S. Umesh, president of the Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association, told the publication, “The authorities should impose conditions so that the cyclists do not disturb the walkers. There needs to be a separate track for cyclists so that there is no disturbance to the walkers.”
