Anamika Mazumdar’s feat on Kaun Banega Crorepati 9 will go down in history. The 41-year-old woman from Jharkand toiled hard to become the first crorepati of the season. Hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, the game show saw Anamika taking a big risk on the crore question, as she was left with no lifeline. After her big win, the social worker joined indianexpress.com for an excluisve chat where she shared, “When I started playing the game, I did not know I will go this far. But with time and right answers, I gained confidence. Also, I must add that Amitabh ji’s presence also has a very positive effect and he gave me assurance that I can win it.”
A commerce graduate, Anamika had big dreams for herself but was forced into marriage by her parents. Her husband, who is 10 years older to her, doesn’t like her spending too much time on work but for Anamika, her passion is her life. “My husband may feel that I do not give much time to my children but I feel the underprivileged kids in our state needs more attention. My NGO Faith in India, works towards them and also uplifting the women in the area. I have found solace in my work and it was my biggest motivation to participate in the show. We do not have much funds and this prize money would really help me get better facilities for the needy,” she shared happily.
When asked about her preparation for the game show, the mother of two averred, “I have always been an avid watcher of quiz shows on television. With my children growing up, I did not get to watch too much TV but I enjoyed reading about current affairs. I think that really helped me get through the game. Thankfully the questions were around the areas I studied. I had no inkling about the seven crore question and thus decided to quit. It would have been stupid to take such a big risk.”
